Pramipexole Dihydrochloride (Generic Mirapex) - Product information and Uses

Pramipexole Dihydrochloride is a non-ergoline dopamine agonist which is used for treating early-stage Parkinson's disease (PD) and restless legs syndrome (RLS).
It is also sometimes used off-label as a treatment for cluster headache and to counteract the problems with sexual dysfunction experienced by some users of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants.

Pramipexole Dihydrochloride (Generic Mirapex) - Availability And Packaging

Pramipexole Dihydrochloride is available as Generic Mirapex Tablets which is packaged in 0.25 and 0.5 mg tablets. Generic Mirapex is available as Pramipex, Mirapexin and Sifrol.

Side Effects of Pramipexole Dihydrochloride (Generic Mirapex)

Common side effects of Pramipexole Dihydrochloride include:

• Headache
• Hyperalgesia (body aches and pains)
• Nausea and vomiting
• Sedation and somnolence
• Decreased appetite and subsequent weight loss
• Orthostatic hypotension (resulting in dizziness, lightheadedness, and possibly fainting, especially when standing up)
• Insomnia
• Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting or feeling things that are not there)
• Twitching, twisting, or other unusual body movements
• Unusual tiredness or weakness

Several unusual adverse effects of pramipexole (Generic Mirapex) may include compulsive gambling, hypersexuality, and overeating, even in patients without any prior history of these behaviours. These behaviors have been reported to manifest in almost 14% of patients on DA agonist therapies. Other compulsive behaviors, such as excessive shopping and compulsive cross-dressing, have been reported.

Pramipexole Dihydrochloride (Generic Mirapex) - Dosage

The recommended starting dose of Pramipexole Dihydrochloride to treat Parkinson's disease is 0.375 mg/day given in three divided doses and should not be increased more frequently than every 5 to 7 days. The recommended starting dose of Pramipex Tablets to treat Restless Legs Syndromeis 0.125 mg taken once daily 2 to 3 hours before bedtime.
Take each dose of Generic Mirapex with a full glass of water. Pramipexole can be taken with or without food.
